About us
About Mushroom Telescope
Plain, practical writing about getting watchable video out of the camera most people already carry: their phone.
Why this site exists
Almost everyone now owns a camera that records sharp, colourful video, and almost everyone has a camera roll full of clips they would rather not show anyone. The gap is rarely the hardware. It is a short list of habits — where to stand relative to the light, what to lock before pressing record, how to hold the phone, how close the microphone needs to be — that nobody explains when you unbox a phone.
Mushroom Telescope exists to explain them. The name is a reminder of the subject: a small, ordinary-looking thing you carry around that can show you a lot more than you expect if you learn how to point it.
What we cover
- Camera settings — resolution, frame rate, exposure and focus lock, and when the automatic choices are good enough.
- Handling — grip, stance, stabilisation modes, tripods and when a gimbal is worth considering.
- Sound — getting voices clear, dealing with wind and echo, and connecting external microphones.
- Framing and light — vertical versus horizontal, lens choice on multi-camera phones, and using the light that is already there.
- Finishing — backing up, simple editing on a phone or computer, captions and export settings.
How we write
- Brand-neutral. Camera apps differ between manufacturers and software versions, so we describe what a control does rather than claiming exactly where it sits on your phone.
- Hedged where it matters. If an answer depends on your device, your region or your surroundings, we say so.
- No invented numbers. We do not publish made-up statistics, studies, ratings, testimonials or expert quotes.
- General information. Our guides are educational and are not personalised technical, legal or purchasing advice.
How the site is funded
We do not run sponsored articles, we do not use affiliate links, and we do not sell phones, accessories, apps, courses or services. No manufacturer pays for a mention. If that ever changes for a particular page, the page will say so clearly at the top before the article begins.

Corrections
Phone software changes often, and we will sometimes be out of date or simply wrong. If you spot an error, tell us which page and which paragraph. We correct pages openly and note substantial revisions.
